Latest Update from Peta.
As the weather is hotting up the fruit and vegie market is now stocking some
great summer fruits such as sweet strawberries, yummy rock melon, juicy
water melon, delicious mangoes and tantalising pineapple.  The produce is
still fresh and beautiful and the prices very reasonable.  Why not come down
to the market and buy some special treats for your end of Ramadan or
Christmas celebrations!  Remember, if there is something special that you
would like to buy from the market and we don't have it, let us know and we
will try to get it in for you.

The weekly fruit and vegie market at Atherton Gardens is going from strength to strength. People now know we are there and are really supporting this great project. In fact we have been so overwhelmed with the response, that we will be sourcing a third set of scales to cope with the demand. This extra set of scales should see the queues move more quickly and more efficiently. We thank everybody for their patience as we work out the best systems to run the market.

The market is a not for profit social enterprise whose main goal is to provide the Atherton Gardens community with the cheapest and freshest produce possible. Setup funding and support for the project has come from the Brotherhood of St Laurence, the Office of Housing Fitzroy and Cultivating Community.

The market is predominantly staffed by volunteers whose commitment and passion has made the market a success to date. However we do need more volunteers to make this a sustainable and thriving enterprise. So if you have a few hours to spare on a Thursday, please come down to the market and help us out.

No experience needed, just a willingness to be involved! The success of the market is up to you! Volunteers receive some fruit and vegetables and a good feeling because they are helping their community.

Talk to the other volunteers on market day about how to get involved or contact Anne on 9415 7454 or Peta on 9415 6580.
